Infinity’s revolutionary new Kappa Series subwoofers deliver true low distortion and high performance with one incredible feature, the Infinity Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI) design.

     Unlike conventional dual-impedance woofers, which take the form of two voice coils that may be connected either in series or parallel (typically providing either 1 or 4 ohms or 2 or 8 ohms connectivity), the SSI design offers 2-ohm and 4-ohm selectability, thus providing the two most often used impedances from a single woofer.

     The SSI setting works by means of a highcurrent, two-position switch instead of two independent sets of terminals, greatly simplifying installation by making the Kappa woofers nearly impossible to wire incorrectly. In addition, Kappa woofers feature a coated glass-fiber cone for remarkable rigidity, low distortion and excellent behavior-at-the-limits characteristics. An aluminium voice coil former further boosts thermal power handling by enhancing the radiation, convetion and dissipation of excess electrical power.

     A heavy, cast-aluminium frame maintains extremely precise tolerances between the moving assembly and motor structure, and integrated, heavy-gauge terminals accept up to #8 AWG (8.366mm²) conductors.

In addition, Kappa Series subwoofers feature:
• Vented polepiece – It reduces air compression under the dust cap to minimize mechanical noise and provides more constant mechanical Q for reduced distortion.
• Medium-Q design – This design provides great performance in sealed, vented or band-pass enclosures. Sealed enclosures for Kappa woofers can be ≤30 percent of the recommended volume. Optimal vented boxes like these don’t require super-long ports.
• Meticulous testing – We test Infinity subwoofers according to the strictest and most demanding reliability-testing regimen ever designed for car-audio speakers.

     We shake, bake, freeze and drop them, all while they’re operating. We even try to destroy them with signals up to 10 times their rated power. When they’ve passed those tests, we subject the subs to their RMS and peak power limits for 100 hours. Many competitors test theirs for only eight hours.
